Banyana Banyana advance to Afcon semis

Banyana Banyana are two games away from clinching the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations after they advanced to the semi-finals following a 1-1 draw against Zambia.Desiree Ellis’ side came into the clash buoyed with confidence having defeated Nigeria 1-0 and thumping Equatorial Guinea 7-1 in their previous clash. The in-form Thembi Kgatlana continued her excellent run of form as she netted her fourth goal of the tournament in the eighth minute.

Shepolopolo levelled matters minutes later when towering forward Rachel Kundananji rose highest to sneak the ball in past goalkeeper Kaylin Swart.

South Africa upped their tempo in search of the lead again, but a mixture of poor finishing and resolute defending saw the scoreline remain the same.

Ellis’ side had the best chance to restore their lead when Kgatlana fluffed her lines after rounding the goalkeeper. Refiloe Jane failed to slot home with the rebound as the two sides were forced to settle for a point each.
