Chiefs confirm Gordinho’s return

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that defender Lorenzo Gordinho has return to the club following his loan spell at Bloemfontein Celtic.

The 24-year-old spent the last 12-months on loam at Celtic featuring regularly for the Free State-based outfit.

Amakhosi’s football manager Booby Motaung has since confirmed Gordinho’s return.

‘Lorenzo will be back at training tomorrow,’ Motaung told his clubs official website.

The lanky defender came through the Chiefs’ youth development academy and made his official senior debut for Amakhosi again Maritzburg United on 11 February 2014.

Since his debut, Gordinho has managed to rack up 66 appearances in all competitions for Chiefs and has came on four times as a substitute, while scoring seven goals in the process.

However, he lost his place in Amakhosi’s starting lineup close to the end of 2017 and was deemed surplus to requirement. It was then decided that the defender would be loaned out to Celtic in search of regular game time.

Gordinho has since returned to the club and will train with Amakhosi senior team for the first time this campaign on 29 December.

‘Lorenzo comes back at the right time,’ he added. ‘Because we have a few injuries. He got a lot of game time at Bloemfontein Celtic and, because of that, gained a lot of experience.

‘It was a well spend year and we also thank Celtic for giving him the opportunity to play. Lorenzo learnt a lot during the past 12 months, which will help him on his return to the club.’
