Baxter laments wasteful Bafana

Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter cut a frustrated figure following his side’s 1-0 loss against Tanzania in the Cosafa Cup quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon.

A mixture of poor officiating and wasteful finishing saw the reigning Cosafa Cup champions bow out of the tournament as they conceded their first-ever loss to the Taifa Stars.

Baxter highlighted the lack of quality shown by both sides.

“The result was very disappointing,” he told SuperSport.

“I think the game was a poor game, there wasn’t really a lot of quality shown by either of the sides,” Baxter told SuperSport after the game.

“We had a few chances, we built up a little pressure in the second half, we failed to take them and then panic set in and it was a very disappointing evening for everybody.

“It’s just poor finishing, panic sets in a little bit.

“I don’t need to go to the video to see the missed chances, I think that it’s just the question of on the evening when you get the chance, take it, it eases the pressure and you can play a bit more,” he concluded.

The host nation will now compete in the semi-finals of the plate section against Botswana at the Moruleng Stadium on Sunday afternoon with kick-off scheduled for 17:00.
