Chiefs youngster revels in debut strike

Kaizer Chiefs youngster Siyabonga Ngezana managed to get on the scoresheet in his first-ever Absa Premiership game against Mamelodi Sundowns, and the defender dedicated his goal to chairman Kaizer Motaung.

Goals by Ngezana and Bernard Parker secured a 2-1 win against Sundowns at the Loftus Versveld Stadium, with the promoted defender subsequently being rewarded with the man-of-the-match award.

The 20-year-old revealed that coach Steve Komphela foretold his eye-catching debut performance.

“Be focused, play your game and everything will fall into place. You will become the man of the match and score a goal,” Komphela said to Ngezana.

The former Orlando Pirates junior suggested that his sterling performance was as a result of Komphela’s faith in him.

“It’s great if a coach believes in you. That goal was for the chairman’s birthday.

“We were only at around midnight back at the Chiefs Village.

“Thereafter, I drove home to Sebokeng in the Vaal. My family was still awake when I arrived there, and they obviously wanted to hear all about my debut,” he added.

Speaking on Saturday’s Soweto Derby against bitter rivals Pirates, Ngezana said he would love to play a part in the proceedings.

“I take instructions from the coach. It’s all about the coach’s plan for the game and how I will fit in that strategy.

“Although, of course, it would be something very special if I would be able to play a role.

“What you put in is what you get out. It’s all thanks to the God almighty,” he concluded.
