Pirates star cleared of rape charges by NPA

Orlando Pirates forward Ayanda Nkosi’s name has been cleared after the National Prosecuting Authority dropped a rape charge against him.

The former Free State Stars man can breathe a sigh of relief after he was arrested and appeared in court for a charge of rape which was laid against him.

Pirates took to their official website to publicise the verdict made by the NPA on Nkosi, in addition to both the club and player releasing short statements on the matter.

‘Ayanda Nkosi was relieved when he was informed earlier today that the state has dropped the rape charge against him,’ a statement by club read.

‘Mr Nkosi was informed via a letter from the National Prosecutions Services that after careful consideration of the docket, it could not be proven beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Nkosi had committed this heinous act,’ the statement read.

Nkosi revealed his joy after his name was cleared and took the time to send out a message.

‘I would like to refer to the club’s pledge which has stayed with me since my induction at the club, that violence against women and children is like waging a war on ourselves as a nation and we must speak out against it and be exemplary through our deeds and serve as role models.

‘I am happy that my name has been cleared,’ he concluded.
