Sekhukhune United went two points clear on Tuesday, and Miguel Cardoso’s team had the chance to respond. Sundowns went ahead in the 28th minute when Marcelo Allende delivered a cross from the right and Iqraam Rayners headed in. Eight minutes later, Gallants equalised through a Keanu Cupido own goal from a Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo cross.
Gallants came into the game without a win in three matches, while Sundowns had beaten Magesi 3-0 on Sunday.
Peter Shalulile had the first attempt in the fourth minute, forcing Washington Arubi into a save. Ronwen Williams then denied Gallants from range in the eighth minute.
After the early goals, the match stayed level at half-time. Sundowns saw more of the ball in the second half but could not create many clear openings. Substitute Tashreeq Matthews hit the side-netting shortly after the restart, while both Arubi and Williams were called into action again later.
The match ended 1-1, leaving Sundowns two points behind Sekhukhune United.
