Watch: How FIFA lost their video game franchise

Watch Tifo Football explain how a licensing dispute led to the rebranding of the World's most popular sports video game.

In 2023, the beloved FIFA video game franchise rebranded to EA FC after a failed licensing negotiation between video game publisher Electronic Arts (EA) and football governing body FIFA.

Last year, video game developer and publisher EA ended its extremely successful partnership with world football’s governing body FIFA after negotiations on licensing fell through. EA sought greater flexibility to explore more digital and commercial opportunities, while FIFA were reportedly aiming to double its annual fee.

FIFA 23 was the final game in the series to carry the FIFA brand, with EA Sports FC 25 set to be released later this year.

Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham will be the cover of the EA Sports FC 25 standard edition in his iconic celebratory pose.
