Xabi Alonso had a spectacular career as a player, winning almost every trophy possible at Liverpool, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and his country Spain.
Alonso had a promising start to his managerial career in Germany after taking over at Bayer Leverkusen in October of 2022. Leverkusen were struggling before Alonso’s arrival, but the Spaniard has seen positive results with a progressive style of play.
With European football qualification and a UEFA Europa League semi-final in his debut season, Alonso has taken Leverkusen from the verge of misery to a promising and hopeful future.
